Kia and Amazon join forces to sell EV charging stations in the U.S.

  • The program would see Amazon selling as well as installing electric vehicle charging stations at office or house of the customers
  • This tie-up labels Kia as the second automaker in America after Tesla for offering the service online with the electric charging network

Kia Motors America (KMA) has recently announced a new program, in collaboration with Amazon Home Services, for its plug-in vehicle customers. Apparently, the program would see Amazon selling as well as installing electric vehicle charging stations at office or house of the customers.

Kia Motors has claimed that the procedure of purchasing and installing a charging station would be as easy as it is to buy other products on Amazon’s online platform. Reportedly, this tie-up would make Kia the second carmaker in America after Tesla to be offering the service online with the electric charging network.

Orth Hedrick, Executive Director of KMA – Car Planning and Telematics, said in a statement that Home-charging could not become more easier that this. Enabling customers to order a Level 2 charger and its installation through Amazon simplifies and demystifies the experience for new Kia PHEV and EV owners. This is another example of how the company is constantly striving towards providing the very best customer experience and vehicles.

Sources familiar with the matter informed that the car manufacturer is actively working to improve its charging infrastructure in the United States as the company adds more electric cars to its portfolio. Kia currently retails the Optima PHEV, Niro PHEV, Niro EV1 and Soul EV, among other models across the nation.

Consumers would find the recommended 240-volt or Level 2 charging units selected by Kia on Amazon, as well as information about customer reviews and home charging installation. Customers would also be provided with the cost for the installation from the site, which if needed, would schedule a licensed electrician for the same, sources added.

These charging stations are supposedly backed by the Happiness Guarantee plan from Amazon. The vehicles of Kia in the US are offered with a 160,000 km/10 years warranty cover, along with roadside assistance.
